Barnabas 22 opens Oct. 22 and runs through Nov. 20, in the Reif Gallery. The opening reception takes place on Oct. 22 from 5 – 7 p.m., and the public is encouraged to attend to this free event.
“Barnabas 22” is a project that aims to shed light on the statistic from the Veterans Administration that each day 22 veterans are lost to suicide. The project was begun by Corwin in 2018, and the main focus of the project is an art exhibit of 22 chalk pastel portraits of service dogs and emotional support animals. Each dog is an important part of the life of a military veteran and an essential part of their wellbeing. The stories of these veterans and their devoted battle buddies shows the important difference that a service animal can make in preventing suicide and promoting healing.
Mary Myers Corwin has been an Artist in Residence with the City of Grand Rapids Arts and Culture Commission’s residency program in Old Central School since 2016 when she retired from her job of more than 20 years as support staff for the Grand Rapids, MN Police Department.

June 2024
Regional Printmakers | Printmaking opens May 13 and runs through July 5, in the Reif Gallery. The opening reception takes place on June 7 from 4pm – 5pm, and the public is encouraged to attend to this free event.
Regional Printmakers | Printmaking | Belle Hulne, Monica Ihrke, Glenna Olson, Deb Page
This exhibition explores the medium of relief printmaking from the perspective of four different artists. Well-known local artists Deb Page and Glenna Olson will be joined by two regional artists who haven’t previously exhibited in the area – Monica Ihrke (Duluth, MN) and Belle Hulne (Minneapolis, MN).
Belle Hulne is a practicing printmaker who currently creates her art in the Twin Cities. She was taught the art of relief, intaglio, and screenprinting processes at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she graduated with a BFA in 2020. Belle carves highly rendered observations of critical environments, capturing the exact moment in time she was present to experience the space.
Monica Ihrke Monica Ihrke grew up in California and received her BA in Art from the University of California, Santa Cruz where she studied printmaking and her MS in Experiential Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato where her studies integrated reflective practice, art, and connection. She currently resides in Duluth, MN.
Glenna Olson is a relief printmaker from Cohasset, MN, who was born and raised in rural Hutchinson. After graduating from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, Glenna enjoyed a career as a high school art educator for over 30 years. Glenna’s body of work includes both woodcuts and linocuts and employs one of three methods to incorporate color into her prints: hand water coloring, multi-block printing, and reduction block.
Deborah Page is an artist living in the rural Grand Rapids area. She was co-owner of the custom frame shop Frame Up for over 35 years. Deb works primarily in relief printmaking and pastel painting.
